This is a last minute invitation that confirms my participation as a volunteer speaker to deliver a Train-the-Trainer (TTT) session at the annual Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) Summit 2009. This year’s summit from 18 to 20 Jun 2009 will be delivered live “virtually” round-the-clock (webcast) with several cool and exciting topics from international speakers in multiple languages. It covers both the developer and IT Pro tracks, including sessions on soft-skills and peeks into new products like Exchange Server 2010, Windows 7 and Office 14, to name a few.

My session on “TTT 6419 Configuring, Managing and Maintaining Windows Server 2008 Servers” is scheduled on Thu 18 Jun 2009 at 1800 hrs (GMT) focusing on tips and tricks, trainer hints and notes from the field. I shall be delivering it for the very first time in Chinese Mandarin It will certainly be tough and I am kinda nervous actually as it will be a challenge to find equivalent terms and expressions “to make it all flow” so please bear with me. Due to the severe lack of time to prepare, I am building the slide decks and demo (time permits) in English.

At many of my speaking engagements and blog posts, a lot of people keep coming up to me and post the same question -  what is the awesome program I use to create, author and playback video or run some of my demos? The application is Camtasia Studio from TechSmith.

Out-of-the-box, it supports a wide range of compatible formats like Silverlight Windows Media Video / Audio (WMV/WMA), Adobe Flash (SWF, FLV), MPEG-4 (H.264/AAC), .MOV, .MP4 or even .AVI from your digicam. You can edit and fine-tune the video and audio tracks separately on a granular timeline to your heart’s content by adding 3D tilt video effect prior to media production, for instance. For those that are already certified as MCSE on Windows Server 2003, you qualify to take the transition Exam 70-649 TS: Upgrading Your MCSE on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. Passing this exam will earn you the following MCTS certifications on Windows Server 2008:

- MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory Configuration
- MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure Configuration
- MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure Configuration

It is only necessary to attempt Exam 70-648: TS: Upgrading Your MCSA on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 if you are certified as MCSA (and not MCSE) on Windows Server 2003. In this case, you earn all of the above MCTS certifications except the last (Applications). Read more on transition of your MCSA and MCSE on Windows Server 2003 skills to Windows Server 2008 here.

Depending on the path you take, both will lead you to the new MCITP: Server Administrator or MCITP: Enterprise Administrator certifications once you clear the required number of exams. Announced at TechEd US taking place this week in Orlando/Florida, virtualization will have its very own series of training delivered in various formats - from basics to expert level - and associated Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification program*. This is in line with Microsoft’s virtualization strategy which includes Hyper-V and the forthcoming Windows Server Virtual Machine Manager (now SCVMM).

Also introduced is the long rumored Microsoft Certified Master technical certification. This is positioned to fill the gap between the Microsoft Certified Architect and Microsoft Certified Professionals (IT Pro / Developer) in the role-based certification model. For example at the Master level, potential candidates must undergo 3 weeks of intensive training per track to attain proficiency in specific products such as Exchange Server 2007 and Windows Server 2008 Active Directory. The Master certification program is only offered on an admission basis to qualified individuals who satisfy the prerequisite certifications backed by sound resumes.

Exactly what defines a track, the number of tracks needed, investment costs, candidate selection and passing criteria, and certification impact (on existing MCSA, MCSE, MCT, etc.) are unknown at the time of writing.
