Lync Voice Call Analyzer (Community Edition) Goes Live / RTM!

Lync Voice Call Analyzer (Community Edition)What better way to start off 2012 than with the exciting announcement of the immediate general availability* of the Lync Voice Call Analyzer (Community Edition) tool!

Over the Christmas 2011 and right past the New Year 2012 period, I have been extremely busy working on the final touches of Lync VCA (CE) besides intensive testing Lync for Mobile / CU4 . This project was undertaken in my spare private time with a real personal need to determine how much (air) audio/voice minutes I have spent communicating via Lync 2010 at any given period of time and with whom.

I hope you find it to be a useful tool that you will keep using on a regular basis as well, much like generating your own ad-hoc statements for your handy, mobile or cell phone usage.

Detail information about Lync VCA from setup, download to step by step guide can be found here. Feedback, comments and suggestions are most welcome!

Lync Voice Call Analyzer (Community Edition) Preview - Open Beta Testers Wanted!

Lync 2010Update (2 Dec 2011) - See related blog post for the Windows graphical version Beta Preview.

Have you ever wondered how much (Lync voice) time you actually used or logged today, this week or last month? Questions like … did I make more Lync calls or chalk up excessive voice minutes in international, long-distance PSTN phone calls? How much time did I spend talking to someone (or so-and-so) over a period of time? What is the average number of participants in the Lync conversations or telephone conference calls that I take part in? Where can I find a useful tool to generate an executive report to capture such information in an easy to use data file format to help justify Return of Investment (ROI)? … may constantly pop up from end-users and management alike.

If you ever asked one or more questions/requirements along similar lines as described above, then Lync Voice Call Analyzer (Community Edition), a C# .NET client-side application that I developed during my own personal spare time, may just be the answer for you!

A local, synchronized copy of Outlook items is automatically created and saved in a hidden folder* if Cached Exchange Mode is enabled. You can specify a target folder for the offline Outlook Data File (.ost) using the Mail applet in Control Panel to another location on the same computer. This is accomplished by toggling the”Use Cached Exchange Mode” check box followed by “Disable Offline Use” on the Data Files / <Exchange account> / Settings / Advanced tab; see Move an offline Outlook Data File (.ost) for more information.

Remote Desktop Connection Manager

Rather than opening individual RDP sessions to your back-end servers with Remote Desktop Connection, consider deploying Microsoft’s internal tool that goes by the name “Remote Desktop Connection Manager”, RDCMan. It offers more flexibility than the Remote Desktops MMC snap-in. For instance, the administrator can group servers into regions or by server roles. On the work pane itself, a live thumbnail view of all connected servers is shown.

This free tool at version 2.2 is now available for public download here.

Recording Converter for Live Meeting 2007

The Recording Converter for Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 is a free tool that converts meetings recorded in Office Live Meeting 2007’s High Fidelity Presentation (HFP) format into single movie files using the WMV format. It comprises of the Recording Converter Engine and Graphical User Interface.

The tool runs under Windows XP or higher with the .NET Framework 2.0 and Windows Media Player 9 or higher installed. To capture application or desktop sharing contents in a meeting recording, the Recording Converter should be run on a computer with Office Live Meeting 2007 already installed (as the needed decoders to export these contents are already present).

You can use applications like Windows Media Encoder, Windows Movie Maker or my favorite Camtasia Studio application to do additional transcoding or editing for specific purposes.

Find out more and download this tool here and here.
