Tutorial: OCS 2007 R2 Direct SIP - Videos Back Online!

“Direct SIP with OCS 2007 R2″ has been and continues to be one of the most popular tutorial series in a video screen-cast format that I have produced to-date. The video series is designed to walk you through the setup of Direct SIP in OCS 2007 R2 and Cisco Call Manager 5.x. Due to the decommission of the external Silverlight Live online service where they were originally hosted, the videos lost their home for a while; until now.

With overwhelming demands and by popular requests, I managed to retrieve backup copies and reinstated them back online. My only request to you is that if you have and will be using the videos in any form, _please_ let me know by dropping a comment to this blog post with your real name, company and email contact*. This will encourage me to produce titles that are relevant to the community and real-world practitioners like yourself.

Once again, my sincere thanks to all of you who pinged and provided important feedback and constructive comments. Keep them coming!!!

Tutorial: OCS 2007 R2 Direct SIP (6/6)

In the final installment of this tutorial series, I discuss the tasks you need to perform in step 6 to configure OCS 2007 for Direct SIP with an IP-PBX based on CUCM .

First and foremost, download and apply the update packages for the various OCS 2007 RTM server roles and the MOC 2007 RTM client. Follow this by making the required changes to MediationServerSvc.exe.config on the Mediation Server. Except for the latter modification, the formally listed updates are not applicable for R2 server roles and MOC R2 clients. For more information on the changes, search for my previous post “RFC3966 compliant E.164 Numbers and Direct SIP (Part II)”.

Next, start the OCS RTM or R2 snap-in and complete the tasks listed here:

  1. on the Mediation Server / Properties / Next Hop Connection tab, point the IP address under the PSTN Gateway next hop section to the SIP truck on CUCM and use port 5060
  2. under forest node / Properties / Voice Properties, create a Location Profile and matching Normalization rules (International, National and Internal Numbers). TIP: No spaces or special characters for naming a location profile
  3. on the target Mediation Server / Properties / General tab, associate the Default Location Profile with the Location Profile created in the previous step
  4. allow AD replication to propagate the changes made for the OCS global settings (stored either in the System Container, aka Domain Naming Context, or Configuration Partition)

For the above, the actual procedures are demonstrated in the following instructional video that runs for about 5′39.

Tutorial: OCS 2007 R2 Direct SIP (5/6)

Step 5 looks at setting up Route Patterns (RPs) on CUCM. Essentially, this enables IP-PBX users to place outbound calls. The called party can be another IP-PBX user, a PSTN user (domestic or international calls) or an OCS user. This sample video shows how to configure a RP for the latter scenario over an existing Direct SIP trunk i.e. IP-PBX to OCS. Typically, blocks of extension numbers are assigned to the different systems where they can be distinct or overlapping.

Provision of a SIP trunk is the task described in step 4. This is done using the Cisco Unified CallManager Administration website and associated with the previously created Calling Search Space.

Whether to enable the Media Termination Point (MTP) or not is dependent on the CUCM version running on the IP-PBX. Ascertain that the correct IP is specified for the destination address (Mediation Server) at port 5060 with a Non Secure SIP Trunk profile base on a Standard SIP Profile.
