Notes to Exchange Migration with Quest

Anyone considering using Quest Notes Migrator for Exchange should be aware of some dependencies that may not be clearly illustrated in the literature.

For instance, the tool does not automatically create the required target AD objects by default. Instead, it relies on products such as the Microsoft Transporter Suite or Identity Lifecycle Manager (formally MIIS) to fill in this gap beforehand. An AD object can be a contact or a user account.

Exceptions to this behavior do exist, however. For migration to Exchange Server 2007 (not 2003), Quest Migrator will automatically create mailbox-enabled objects from those present in a Notes distribution list being migrated. Also, a corresponding Exchange mailbox will be created by the tool if a matching mail-enabled AD contact or user object already exists.
