What better way to welcome our newest core Swiss IT Pro User Group team member! Marc van Orsouw, Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) PowerShell for 4 years in a row, brings to our members the very first PowerShell Script Club in Zurich. This gratis event will take place at the usual place and time in the evening next Tuesday, 3 November 2009.

What is a PowerShell Script Club you may ask? In a nutshell, a script club is like a hands-on-lab with no set topic or teacher. You bring an idea for a script, and ask your fellow PowerShell users for help getting the script written.

Delivered as part of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 RTM, the Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 client update is now separately available for machines running Windows Vista SP1/SP2 and Windows XP SP3.

With the new RDC/RDP client, you will have access to new exciting Remote Desktop Services features such as enhanced video playback, bidirectional audio, real multiple monitor support up to 16 monitor, Web Single Sign-On (SSO) and Web forms-based authentication that are introduced in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2, while maintaining access to legacy terminal servers or to remote desktops as before.

The much sought after video decoder for playback of OCS 2007 (R2) and Live Meeting recordings is now here. Available for both x86 and x64 platforms, the Microsoft Application Screen Decoder 1 (MSA1) is supported on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

This video decoder is recommended for playback (with Windows Media Player):

• when Live Meeting 2007 is not installed on a 32bit Windows system
• on a 32bit Windows OS running Recording Converter for Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 and Live Meeting 2007 is not installed
• where you are using a 64bit Windows system (applicable whether you run Recording Converter for Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 or not)

Here is a rather misleading message running Exchange Management Shell* while login using an account with full Domain Admins and Exchange Organization rights:

When you attempt to access the folder X:\PublicFolder using Windows Explorer, the situation becomes clearer:

PublicFolder
You don’t currently have permission to access this folder.
Click Continue to get access to this folder.
[Continue] [Cancel]

The trick is simply to remember to use the “Run as administrator” option to start EMC under Windows Server 2008 and above.

On a machine running Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and Windows Server 2008, this error appears despite the fact that the PowerShell cmdlet is executed using an log-in account with Domain Admins membership. A similar error occurs with the following cmdlet:

To resolve this issue, explicitly start the Exchange Management Shell (EMS) with the “Run as administrator” option.

Es ist so weit. Offizieller wird Windows 7 am 22.Okt 2009 auf dem Markt weltweit erscheinen. In der Schweiz wird eine sogenannte Windows 7 Launch Party von Swiss IT Pro User Group mit Support von Microsoft unter dem Thema “Windows 7 for You and Me” geplant. Diese spezielle Party wird an einen Abend zwischen 22. und 29. Okt 2009 in Zürich stattfinden (Datum noch nicht bestimmit).

Falls Sie Windows 7 in der Praxis erleben und die Gelegenheit bei einer lockenden Umgebung neue Leute, Kollege und die IT Pro Community kennen lernen, verzögern Sie sich nicht anzumelden. Official announcement of changes to the Office Communications Server Public IM Connectivity (PIC) license and RTM of the OCS 2007 R2 XMPP Gateway has been released today. The latter provides two-party IM interoperability and Presence with XMPP based systems Google Talk and Jabber CXP Server v5.4.

Essentially, federation with American Online (AOL) will no longer need a PIC license and a PIC license for Yahoo! federation sees a 50% price reduction. For deployment of the XMPP Gateway, no additional license cost is required as it is licensed as “Additional Software” to OCS 2007 R2.
