The cumulative update “Updates for Lync Server 2010″ (KB2493736) applies to the Standard and Enterprise Editions, and addresses issues in the core components, various server roles, Unified Communications Managed API 3.0 Runtime, Lync administrative tools and services (Bandwidth Policy and Lync Mobility Service).

Best Practice:
Make sure that a complete working and tested backup of your infrastructure is available beforehand, and only roll-out applicable hotfixes/updates to a production system after extensive tests and verification (in a pre-production or similar environment).

“Description of the update for Lync 2010: March 2012″ in KB2684739 addresses the following issues in the Lync 2010 client:

• IM history is not stored in the default Exchange mailbox when you use Lync 2010 (KB2689469)
• Dial-in conferencing information is not displayed when a user uses Lync 2010 to join a meeting (KB2688945)
• The CorePlaybackEngine.resources.dll file is not localized correctly in a Lync 2010 client (KB2684798)
