Windows Server 2008 dcpromo Changes II

Following a required system restart after the successful run of dcpromo, you will notice that there are 2 new server roles installed on the domain controller, both mapping to Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server as part of the dcpromo setup process.

Additionally, a couple of essential IT administrator features and sub-features were also automatically installed for you, namely Group Policy Management à la Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), Remote Differential Compression (replaces File Replication Service; FRS) and Remote Server Administration Tools. Even though it appears here as well, Windows PowerShell was actually installed separately as this is an optional feature that ships with Windows Server 2008 since beta 3.

You can inspect supported server roles and features, among other configuration and settings, using the new Server Manager. Notice that from within the same console itself, you gain full access to the management functionality of the various roles or features, analogous to firing them up individually e.g. MMC snap-in for Active Directory Users and Computers or Group Policy Management
