WS03 to WS08 Upgrade

Upgrade from a full version of Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 for the same edition is supported e.g. Enterprise to Enterprise (not Server Core or another higher or even lower edition such as Datacenter and Standard respectively).

Nevertheless, this works only if you start the setup program within Windows itself. Booting from the WS08 DVD to upgrade WS03 will result in the error message:

Upgrade has been disabled

- To upgrade, start the installation from Windows.

Note that for the Enterprise edition, about 11GB of free hard disk space on the system partition, typically C:, must be available in order for upgrade to proceed.
