Load Balancing OCS 2007 Enterprise Pools

With more than one OCS server deployed in an enterprise pool setup, a network load balancer must be deployed as a front-end device to marshal traffic in and out of the servers. For heavy workloads, you should place one balancer to each dedicated OCS pool in your setup.

You may be tempted to deploy the built-in Network Load Balancer (NLB) software feature in Windows Server 2003/2008 Enterprise Edition. This scenario is not supported and should only be used in a test or non-production environment. Look at hardware based network load balancers (HLB) from vendors such as F5 Networks or Foundry Networks to fulfill this special requirement.
