In order to author the topology of your Lync Server 2013 Front-End server pool, you need to associate an existing Office Web Apps (WAC) farm. This enables enhanced rendering of PowerPoint slides and support a plethora of mobile devices.
To create a brand new WAC farm, you have to run the New-OfficeWebAppsFarm PowerShell cmdlet. The designated WAC server must already have the listed hotfix installed to avoid the error message as shown:
New-OfficeWebAppsFarm : The operation failed. The server did not meet the following prerequisites:
- Windows Update KB2592525 must be installed.
Next, ensure that an appropriate server certificate is correctly installed on the local computer’s Personal certificate store. Nevertheless, you bump into the following error upon executing New-OfficeWebAppsFarm with the corresponding parameters:
PS C:\Users> New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalURL “https://lyncWAC01.domain.net” -CertificateName “lyncWAC01.domain.net” -EditingEnabled
New-OfficeWebAppsFarm : Office Web Apps was unable to find the specified certificate.

+ New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalURL “https://lyncWAC01.domain.net …
+ CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (:) [New-OfficeWebAppsFarm], ArgumentException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : CertificateNotFound,Microsoft.Office.Web.Apps.Administration.NewFarmCommand
You double-checked and verified that the correct fields are populated in the server certificate, such as the Subject Name* and Subject Alternative Name (SAN), and that it is based on the Web Server template.
What could be the issue then?
* or Common Name (SN/CN)
