#skype4b/office365 Cannot perform the action (password reset)

With the right credentials, you continue to fail to sign-in to Skype for Business / Office 365 (Skype Online):

Can’t sign in to Skype for Business
The user name, password, or domain appears to be incorrect. Ensure that you entered them correctly. If the problem continues, please contact your support team.

On the main skype4b desktop application’s “Sign in” page, …… you click on “Forgot my password” and encounter another error:

Cannot perform the action because the related web page was not available from your Internet browser. If you have not selected a default web browser, please specify one in the Control Panel. Otherwise, if the problem continues, please contact your support team.

 

This can happen if another browser is configured as the default application on your Windows (10/7) desktop machine. You can either manually change this as prompted or go directly to Get back into your account* to try your password reset. In the worst case, you will have to reach out to your organization’s administrator or Microsoft Office365 support to resolve this issue:

You cannot reset your password at this time because necessary information is missing from your account. There is no further action you can take to resolve this situation. Please contact you admin and ask them to reset your password for you. After you have access to your account again, you can learn how register the necessary information by following the steps in the article Register for self-service password reset.

If you’d like, we can contact an administrator in your organization to reset your password for you.
If there are no other administrators in your organization, please contact Support.
Additional details: SSPR_0014: Additional security info is needed to reset your password. To proceed, contact your admin and ask them to reset your password. After you have access to your account you can register additional security info at https://aka.ms/ssprsetup. Your admin can add additional security info to your account by following the steps in Set and read authentication data for Password Reset.
