Go to Microsoft Teams Contacts (from Skype for Business Tenant)

To regain access to your missing “legacy” contact list after the forced migration or upgrade to Teams in the Office 365 cloud, click on [ Go to Teams ] in the Skype for Business application and navigate to the Chat tab on the left hand pane. Note that you may have to sign-in (again) to Microsoft Teams.

Surprise surprise! The contact list is completely blank!

If you happened to click pass the dialog that appeared, you have definitely missed the important

“We’re importing your Skype for Business contact groups… This could take a while. To organize your contacts in the meantime …”

dialog box which exactly explains this strange phenomenon.

Depending on your Skype for Business tenant’s region, it can take several hours before your contact list finally appears in Teams itself.

For your convenience, note that your contact list is also accessible under Calls > Contacts.

Microsoft Teams (Cloud) Upgrade From Skype for Business Tenant

Your organization is now using Microsoft Teams! On an Office 365 tenant running Skype for Business, you may be “randomly” selected to upgrade from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams. You will not miss this strategically placed violet coloured notification when you start the Skype for Business (desktop) application.

It is possible to ignore this upgrade prompt for an unknown duration until one fine day where you are “forced” migrated automatically in the cloud. This is evident when the all-too-familiar Skype for Business interface is replaced with “Your organization is now using Microsoft Teams” banner when you successfully sign-in as illustrated.

From this moment on, you are blocked from accessing all your PIM information from contacts to history list and key functionality such as the meeting calendar and voice phone dialer within the Skype for Business app. Administration of existing Skype for Business meetings prior to the upgrade to Teams can continue to be done using Outlook though.

So what now then? You can click on the “Questions? Learn more” (Switch to Teams from Skype for Business) or “View past conversations, calls or voicemails” (FAQ) link to learn more in the meantime.

#powershell #skype4b Scheduled Task Does Not Work

You tested your #skype4b script from the PowerShell command line and are satisfied that everything works as expected. Next, you create a regular Windows scheduled task to run the script at a specific time of a day. However, you are surprised that no results are returned from simple cmdlets like Get-CsUser. You even wrap similar code in Invoke-Command and purposely target remote hosts with -ComputerName with no success.

#skype4b/lync Hide Share/Presentation Meeting Window (Keyboard Shortcut)

In a conference call using Skype for Business 2016/2015 desktop client, an end-user is only allowed to toggle between Speaker and Gallery view using the left most icon on the top right hand corner of the meeting window. Until someone shares something or makes a PowerPoint presentation, you may have to stare at the (typically low-resolution) overblown photograph of the active speaker or a row of meeting participants’ pictures.

To go back to classic “telephone” audio voice calls with no visual cues of the person speaking whatsoever, you can hit Ctrl+Shift+P on the keyboard to move into Compact View for the Sfb desktop client. This functions apparently only if the Participants window is active otherwise the Gallery view will be shown.

RE: Skype for Business for Android – Exchange Settings (still) “Lost” v6.16.0.9

UPDATE (10 Jul 2017)

Microsoft publicly released on this day the Android version of Skype for Business 6.16.0.9.

The two Exchange settings “Skype for Business Anmeldeinformationen verwenden” and “Server automatisch erkennen” are now by default enabled regardless of previous states. A user must explicitly override the latter (off) to get EWS to work if auto config is not desired.

Likewise a user interface quirk as last reported, if “Skype for Business Anmeldeinformationen verwenden” is activated, the UI disables it when you revisit the config page. The option “Server automatisch erkennen” now correctly remains off with the given URL if configured as such before. As long as you hit Cancel and do not logoff, all should continue to function.

Note that IMs received over the Android mobile client remain on the main page until deleted. To do this, press and hold to pick the delete menu option. Simply trying to swipe away does not (yet?) delete an IM from the list.

Skype for Business for Android Mobile – Exchange Settings “Lost”

#skype4b

Like previous releases, the current version (6.16.0.7) of Skype for Business for Android mobile devices exposes 2 Exchange configuration options namely “Skype for Business Anmeldeinformationen verwenden” and “Server automatisch erkennen”.

If you disable the latter option, specify manually the “Exchange-Webdienste FQDN oder URL” and press OK to save the changes, the settings should take effect in an instance or so. The appearance of a list of upcoming skype4b meetings on the main and Calendar tab confirms that Exchange Web Services (EWS) connectivity is functioning as expected.

Nevertheless when you revisit the same Exchange configuration settings, you find that the “Skype for Business Anmeldeinformationen verwenden” is deactivated unexpectedly. Additionally, “Server automatisch erkennen” is now mysteriously re-enabled. By turning it off again, you see that the previously entered EWS FQDN/URL is still intact.

This is apparently a User-Interface only issue; from a functional perspective, everything should continue to work as normal until Microsoft fixes this UI quirk. Otherwise, you may have to logoff and sign-in to have the EWS settings take effect (or toggle the switches explicitly).
